bibbidi-bobbidi-boo

Greg: I’m pretty sure that “bibbidi-bobbidi-boo” must equal infinity.

Jon: What’s that, now?

Greg: Well, you know how the lyrics go: “Salagadoola mechicka-boola bibbidi-bobbidi-boo. Put ‘em together and what have you got: bibbidi-bobbidi-boo.”

Jon: Sure.

Greg: Well, basically that is saying that the sum of salagadoola, mechicka-boola, and bibbidi-bobbidi-boo is equal to the value of bibbidi-bobbidi-boo, right?

Jon: OK.

Greg: And if we assume that salagadoola and mechicka-boola are different values, then even if one of them is equal to zero then the other one must be non-zero.

Jon: Uh huh.

Greg: So that means that bibbidi-bobbidi-boo plus some non-zero value is equal to bibbidi-bobbidi-boo.

Jon: Sure.

Greg: And the only value for which that is true, I think, is infinity.  The only X where X + N = X, where N is not zero, is infinity. Therefore, bibbidi-bobbidi-boo must be equal to infinity.

Jon: Hmm.

Greg: Isn’t that exciting!?

Jon: Sure.

[long awkward pause]

Greg: Well, I think it’s exciting.

Jon: I’m sure that is exactly what they were thinking when they wrote the song.

Greg, I do agree some salagadoola and a mechicka-boola together can create an infinite amount of bibbidi-bobbidi-boo however I think if there was a bit of panchkula and tarantala sprinked, there is an opportunity to create a black hole of bibbidi-bobbidi-boo and all the salagadoola will be sucked into a horizon of vacuum created by the mechicka-boola because of the sprinkled panchukla and tarantala. World however is too chicken to take a step so bold and experiment but if you ever have the urge to take on the world, I’ll be there for you with the entire stock of panchkula and tarantala to create a historic vacuum of bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!

United we stand, divided we bibbidi-bobbidi-uh-ooooh!

You’ve assumed “put them together” means “Add”. It could mean Concatentation or Union. They may have been thinking about strings or sets. Personally I vote for sex. They are describing a trisexual species genetics code. Disney secretly encoded sex everywhere. Cruella was just an obvious example.

I like the theory a lot!

Only one problem, though, that we have to think through on this. If the tri-sexual species functions by requiring the sexual union of a salagadoola, a mechicka-boola, and a bibbidi-bobbidi-boo in order to birth a new bibbidi-bobbidi-boo, then what exactly is the reproductive pathway that generates new salagadoolas and mechicka-boolas?

      Clearly more research is required…..

Not sure of I should shake my head, laugh, or think it was a slow news day.

I’d come to a similar conclusion myself, albeit from an efficiency angle rather than a mathematical one: “If putting them together just leaves you with bibbidi-bobbidi-boo, that seems like a waste of a perfectly good salagadoola and a mechicka-boola.”
